10 Drama (Table B) 2 lessons per week for the whole year

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Carmela Hughes.

New students are welcome to join, no experience required.

Year 10 is designed to develop skills, techniques and understanding of performance conventions in preparation for senior Drama. This course is beginner friendly and is designed to cater to all skill levels. As part of the course, they will partake in the following projects:

Devising (3-4 minute performance)

Inspired by comics completed by students at Mount Albert Primary, you’ll take their ideas and transform them into a short play using a variety of drama conventions.

Commedia dell'arte (3-5 minute performance)

Based on features of the comedy theatre-form from Italy, Commedia Dell'arte is a fun theatre-form that uses physical comedy, pranks, and slapstick to bring their iconic characters to life. You’ll work in groups to create a short performance in class. Assessment is based on their ability to replicate features of commedia.

Drama Techniques (2-5 minute performance)

Students will work in small groups to bring to life a short script. They will need to direct and make performance choices that enhance the script. Assessment is based on acting and performance skill.

Class Production (30-45 minute performance)

The class will perform a short play to an invited audience of their whānau at the end of the year. Assessment is based on commitment to performance and how well they play their character.

Class trip

Students can go on an optional trip to see a professional production as part of Junior Drama at some point in the year.

10 Drama is open to ALL students. Students who have excelled in Year 9 Drama will be offered the chance to do advanced projects as part of their course in Year 10.
