Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Megan Butler.

This is a university approved course.

Psychology is the study of the human mind and human behaviour. In psychology, we examine both the unusual and the everyday behaviour with the goal of understanding how it reveals the nature of the human mind. In doing so, we aim to develop a greater understanding of humanity and the issues surrounding it.

Students will:
• Critique different psychologists from history and their theories of behaviour.
• Understand the role of conformity in the context of obedience and authority.
• Examine in-depth examples of significant psychological research and analyse how they have helped shape our understanding of society.
• Study the cognitive, biological and sociocultural psychological approaches that attempt to explain behaviour.
• Explore abnormal mental function to better understand the complexities of psychological disorders.
• Create a research design, conduct their own psychological research and analyse the results.
• Consider the limitations and ethical implications found in the field of psychology.
