Course Description

Prerequisites

Must gain an achieved grade in all 4 assessments (20 MCEA credits) in year 11 PE (11PF1, 11PFR or 11OE1). 

OR by HoD approval.



This course is designed to further extend your knowledge and understanding of physical education concepts. These include the role and importance of physical activity in our daily lives, the significance of physical activity in society and understanding biophysical principles in learning skills and improving performance.

Students will explore big ideas through the following units:

  • Students will through a variety of contexts demonstrate personal and social responsibility through applying Hellison's Model of responsibility. 
  • Students will examine the sociocultural significance of an international sporting event for self, others and society.
  • Students will train for the Tough Guy/Gal event. They will learn about setting goals, methods of training, principles of training, periodisation, heart rate zones, energy systems, designing training programmes and they will apply this knowledge to their training for the event.
  • Students will demonstrate their performance ability in the Tough Guy/Gal challenge and in a Lawn Bowls tournament.
  • Students will extend their Level 1 knowledge of biophysical principles and be able to demonstrate an understanding of how functional anatomy, biomechanical principles, skill learning and psychological skills relate to performing physical activity.

*This course can be taken alongside 12OE with a request exemption completed.
